Terms of use
Modkeel is free. These terms cover the Companion mod, the command-line tool, modkeel.com, the API at api.modkeel.com and the MCP server for AI assistants. Using any of them means you accept these terms.
Updated October 10, 2026.
What Modkeel gives you
Answers about modded Minecraft (which mod most likely caused a crash, where to get a mod for a Minecraft version, which mods ran together) drawn from the Modkeel lab's test runs, from reports players chose to share, and from public mod catalogs such as Modrinth. They are the best evidence we have, not a guarantee: a mod the lab never tested can still break a pack, and a suggested fix can fail on yours.
Back up before you change your mods
Changing mods can damage a world. Keep a backup before you add, remove or update mods, and before you install a port. The Companion backs up worlds when the mod set changes, but no backup tool replaces your own copy of a world you care about.
Mods and ports are their authors' work
Modkeel links to mods on their authors' pages and does not own them. Ports offered by Modkeel (the Modkeel/ports releases and community forks) are builds of other people's open-source mods for a version their author has not released yet. Each keeps its original licence, is not the author's own build, and should not be reported to the original author as their bug.
Fair use of the API and MCP server
- Calls are rate limited per network. Do not work around the limits, run automated bulk downloads of the data, or use the service to attack or overload anyone.
- Do not send reports you did not get from a real game, or try to skew the crash statistics.
- Lab data is licensed CC BY 4.0: you may reuse it if you credit "Modkeel lab data (modkeel.com)".
Your data
What Modkeel collects, and what it never does, is described in the privacy policy.
Software licences
The Companion and the command-line tool are open source under the MIT licence; that licence governs the code. These terms govern the hosted services.
No warranty
Modkeel is provided as is, without warranty of any kind. To the extent the law allows, Modkeel and its contributors are not liable for lost worlds, lost data, or other damage from using it or relying on its answers.
Changes
We may change the services or these terms. The date above shows the last change; using Modkeel after a change means you accept the new terms. We may stop or limit access for anyone who breaks them.
